Dance Movement After School Program Application

Dance Movement After School Program
is a service that provides free dance classes to elementary, middle, and high school students in the Grand Island and surrounding area.

Dance Movement partners with Smitty's Performing Arts Center.  The organization focuses on students that attend school that might not have the the funds and or transporation to take dance in a studio setting.  The program provides a unique opportunity for students grades 1-12 to be a part of a fun, energetic and postive group within their school, but outside of normal school hours.  Our services are free to students and to schools.  Dance Movement's goal is to provide dance classes to students who might otherwise don't have the opportunity to participate if there were a charge involved.

Dance Movement is a voluntary program.  The students choose between various dance instruction possibilities including, but not limited to :  Hip Hop, Jazz, Break Dance, Jazz and various Fusion Dance Classes.  They attend on school grounds group dance classes with certified "Dance Movement-Smitty's PAC" instructors 1-2 times a week.(depending on school's schedule)  There they improve self confidence, coordination, respect for themselves and others, and interaction.  The program promotes physical exercise and provides these young people a positive and safe after school option.  Instructors are assisted by program volunteers as weel as parents and school teachers.

Throughout the session, the students learn basic dance concepts, work on choreography.  At the end of each session, aproximately 8-10 weeks, Dance Movement holds an intramural dance showcase where the students show off what they learned to their peers, teachers, families, and community.  These showcase events will be held in a safe and neutral venue.  Parents, family members and friends are invited to see the students peform.
